NBA Trade Rumors: The Milwaukee Bucks have been poking around the league in search of the trade value of Grayson Allen.

The Milwaukee Bucks are spiraling out of control. Haha, just kidding. The Bucks are a cool 10-2 even after losing two of their last three games (partially due to some key players sitting out). But it’s safe to say that the Bucks have looked like the best team in the league through the first few weeks of the season.

However, in an attempt to keep their options open to improving their roster ahead of the push for the playoffs. That may still be a long way away (just 12 games through the season), but the Bucks have reportedly called around to gauge the potential trade interest around Grayson Allen.

Allen has started 10 games for the Bucks this season and is averaging 11 points on 42 percent shooting from the field and 43 percent shooting from 3-point range.

What’s the future for Grayson Allen?

Allen is an interesting player and you would assume that he would be useful for a contender that is looking to win another championship. And that is indeed so. Where it becomes complicated with Allen is on the defensive end of the floor.

For the majority of his career, Allen has been a negative defender. And that’s where his value loses much of his worth for a team like the Bucks. For example, in last year’s playoff series against the Boston Celtics, Allen became practically unplayable down the stretch. Because of his shortcomings on the defensive end of the floor, coupled with the fact that he was only shooting 31 percent from the field overall and 20 percent shooting from 3-point range, he was a net negative for the Bucks.

He wasn’t the reason Milwaukee lost to the Celtics in that series, but without Khris Middleton, he was a player that needed to step up for the Bucks to be successful. He did not. And the Bucks lost.

Perhaps Milwaukee doesn’t want them to find themselves in that same position this season. And perhaps they’d much rather have a defensive specialist in Allen’s spot than an offensive-oriented player.

The odds the Bucks trade Allen is likely low. But he is a player to watch if Milwaukee does end up making a deal at the NBA Trade Deadline.
