Atlanta Hawks
What to be grateful for: The acquisition of Dejounte Murray
During the offseason, the Atlanta Hawks made the quick realization that their team, as currently constructed, was not good enough to compete in a deep Eastern Conference. They had talent but they needed to make a splash during the offseason in an attempt to take a step forward in the conference.
And the Hawks should be thankful that they managed to do so by acquiring Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs. The move was a bit costly (Danilo Gallinari and three first-round picks) but they really can’t complain about the end result.
So far this season, the Hawks have a different look and feel to them. The backcourt duo of Murray and Trae Young has been meshing well and this team has a bounce to their step in the East. I’m not sure if the Hawks will finish as a top 4 seed in the East this year, but the potential is there.
And their ceiling was raised with this move alone.
