NBA Trade Rumors: The Detroit Pistons could be open to moving Saddiq Bey at the NBA Trade Deadline.
Enter the season, many (including myself) believed that the Detroit Pistons had the chance to be a dark horse playoff team in the Eastern Conference. However, nearly through the first quarter of the season, the Pistons have the worst record in the East and have struggled overall all.
Some of that is due to injuries the team has had to play through and some of that is just due to overall youthfulness, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But it’s safe to say that the Pistons have not been the team many believed they’d be – or had the chance to be.
Because of that, it will be interesting to see how a team like the Pistons approaches the NBA Trade Deadline. In essence, they should be sellers. And according to a recent report, they may be.
Per Yahoo! Sports, the Pistons are taking calls on talented young wing Saddiq Bey. Does that mean they are open to trading him ahead of the deadline?
The Detroit Pistons have to feel as if they’ve found their core
If this report is indeed accurate, you’d have to imagine that the Pistons feel as if they have found their core players for what they hope to build around moving forward. And Bey may be an odd man out.
It makes sense that they would see what they could get for him on the open market. He’s an expiring contract after next season and a decision on an extension has to happen before that. Suppose Detroit doesn’t want to pay Bey, considering they will have to pay the likes of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, and Jalen Duren eventually. In that case, it’s understandable to be open to moving Bey.
Even though Bey has been productive for the Pistons through his first three seasons in the league, he has struggled with overall efficiency on the offensive end. And he’s undergoing the worst of it so far this season.
Bey has a chance to be a good player but perhaps is not a player that the Pistons view as an untouchable building block.
I don’t think Detroit trading Bey is a foregone conclusion. It can’t be. Though, if the right offer comes along, we also shouldn’t be surprised if the Pistons decided to pull the trigger on a deal.
