NBA Rumors: Exploring whether Bradley Beal’s recent comments about his free agency could open the door for a possible trade demand.
As the Washington Wizards continue to struggle with overall team identity this season, the questions are only going to begin about whether they could potentially emerge as a seller at the NBA Trade Deadline (and possibly beyond, perhaps into the offseason). And squarely at the center of it all will be Bradley Beal.
Beal recently opened up about his recent free-agency experience and, at the very least, the comments were interesting. Here is exactly what Beal told Gilbert Arenas (on his podcast) about his options in free agency this past offseason:
"“There were no teams in the market, free agency-wise. I’m just being frank. There was nowhere else for me to go where I can be like, ‘Oh, I can go win.’ It was teams that strategically wasn’t what I wanted. So realistically, I wouldn’t say my hand was forced, but this was my best decision and best option on the table at the time.”"
You can’t help but question if Beal’s recent comments possibly open the door for a possible trade demand. It’s not like Beal didn’t shoot down all notions that he would be open to another opportunity. It wasn’t a really glowing endorsement for the Wizards and it, at the very least, left some room for interpretation.
He essentially said there were no better options.
Bradley Beal’s odd recent comments will only bring about more questions
If the Wizards continue to spiral down the Eastern Conference standings, the questions that have surrounded this team for the past couple of seasons about their current build are only going to continue.
Beal has his money. And if he really wanted to create other opportunities where he could win, he could absolutely do that for himself with one simple decision – a trade demand.
In the past, Beal has been unwilling to pull this move. However, now that he has his big extension, would he be more willing to do so?
Beal could’ve quelled any narratives of a possible trade demand with this interview. He didn’t do that. And I think he knows that. The next few weeks will be interesting. Will Beal walk these comments back? Will the team’s struggles force him to make a long-term decision that he hasn’t in the past?
The spotlight will undoubtedly make its way back to the Wizards. All eyes may be back on Beal.
