New York Knicks: 4 huge questions about the immediate future that must be addressed
Which non-RJ Barrett young players are building blocks?
Let’s assume that RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson are building blocks, does the team have any other after that? In other words, if the opportunity to reset the roster or retool a bit presents itself, who would be on the chopping block, and who wouldn’t?
The Knicks roster, if nothing else, is an interesting one. Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, Barrett, Brunson, Evan Fournier, and Derrick Rose are the big-salary players on the roster. How many of those are building blocks? After that, how many of the team’s young players would also fall into that category? That includes Cam Reddish, Isaiah Hartenstein, Obi Toppin, Immanuel Quickley, and Quentin Grimes.
How many, if any, of those players are considered to be building blocks for the team’s current build? If this is even a build that the Knicks are content with? The next 2-3 years for the Knicks will be defined by these questions and more. New York has some big decisions to make and none of them will be easy.
