Step 3 – Trade Duncan Robinson

When the Miami Heat agreed to a five-year, $90 million contract extension with Duncan Robinson, many believed it was something they had to do. They could not let one of the best shooters in the league walk in free agency. Nevertheless, just a couple of seasons later, it’s considered one of the worst contracts in the league.

A contract that is just sitting on the Heat’s bench. One thing that Miami has struggled to do over the course of their success in the league is admitting when they’ve made a mistake. They almost never do that but is something they must do when it comes to Robinson.

And that means getting that contract off the roster. Unfortunately, doing so will cost an asset. Whether that’s a young player or a future first-round pick or pick swap. Either way, it’s something the Heat needs to do. To capitalize on this current build, the Heat can’t afford to wait out Robinson’s contract or let another season pass by in hopes of him catching his previous form.

Miami needs to bite the bullet and trade Robinson.
