NBA Trade Rumors: Warriors expected to move a big-name at the deadline?
NBA Trade Rumors: The expectation around the league is that the Golden State Warriors will move one of their big-name young players.
Through roughly the first 30 games of the season, the Golden State Warriors have been quite disappointing. They’ve been inconsistent and it’s been a lackluster title defense campaign thus far. They’re 14-15 and are 10th in the Western Conference standings.
In other words, if the season ended today, the Warriors would have to play their way into the playoffs. All in all, there is much to be figured out for Golden State. And with two months ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, there will be many eyes locked on the Warriors. What move will they make, if any?
You would assume that they would want to make a move to solidify their chances of repeating as champions, but who (or what) would they trade?
According to a recent report, the expectation around the league is that if the Warriors do decide to make a move at the trade deadline, they could very well be trading one of their big-name young players James Wiseman or Jonathan Kuminga.
The Warriors should be going all-in on the season
With the way this team’s roster is constructed, the Warriors kind of have to be all-in this season. And while you can make a case that not trading one of their “core” young players could still categorize this season as being all-in, I’d argue that trying to balance the next era of Warriors basketball with this one would be the definition of not being all-in.
The Warriors essentially want to have their cake and eat it too. That rarely works in the NBA and perhaps Golden State’s struggles this season have echoed that. There’s still plenty of season remaining for the Warriors to right the ship, but the early returns haven’t been great for a team that many expected to be dominant in the Western Conference.
If the Warriors move forward with trading Wiseman or Kuminga, I don’t think anyone should be surprised. Should it be expected, as this report indicates? I’m not sure. But if there’s a win-now player out there that the front office believes will help the Warriors take another step forward, there’s no doubt in my mind that they should pull the trigger.
What will the Warriors do at the NBA Trade Deadline? We shall see.
