The Los Angeles Lakers season is officially on life support after the recent injury update given on Anthony Davis.
Just when it seemed as if the Los Angeles Lakers were beginning to turn the corner on their early-season struggles, they were hit with some terrible news – Anthony Davis is set to miss at least a month with, as you would expect, an injury.
Davis injured his foot in Friday night’s matchup with the Denver Nuggets. He exited the game and didn’t return. The hope was that he would not miss much time with the injury. However, on Sunday, that hope died. While missing a month may not seem the end of the world on the surface, it may as well be for the struggling Lakers.
Davis’ play this season was a massive part of the Lakers’ recent turnaround. Davis averaged 27 points and 12 rebounds per game on 59 percent shooting from the field before his injury. He was also playing good defense for the team.
It won’t be easy and maybe downright impossible to replace. To make matters worse, the injury to Davis brings about so many more questions that stretch well beyond the team’s current on-the-court product.
Will the Anthony Davis injury impact the team’s decision-maker ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline?
With all the trade rumors that have been swirling around this team as of late, you can’t help but wonder what this injury will do to all that. Does the fact that Davis is expected to miss a month mean that the Lakers will officially throw the towel on the season? Does that mean we shouldn’t expect this team to make a trade after all?
Will this injury perhaps speed up the team’s decisions to make a trade? Will the team be more willing to stand pat or will they want to make a move either way (perhaps in an attempt to salvage the season)?
There are certainly a lot of questions that the Lakers still need to answer. And that was before this recent injury to Davis.
The next couple of weeks will be interesting from the Lakers’ perspective. I’m sure there will be plenty of highly important conversations that will take place. And many of them could have huge repercussions on the team’s future.
Despite all that, one thing is clear. Whether the Lakers still elect to make a trade or not, it seems that this season is officially on life support.
