NBA Trade Rumors: A popular trade deadline target is not expected to be available at this year’s NBA Trade Deadline.
Heading into the NBA Trade Deadline season, the expectation is that there will be a vast market that will begin to develop over the next few weeks. Teams will begin to make decisions on their futures and we should (very quickly) begin to see a hard line between the buyers and sellers of the season.
One team that many expect to be a seller this season is the Detroit Pistons. However, at least according to a recent report, that may not be a reality. At least not for now. According to a recent report, the Pistons don’t intend on trading the one player on their roster that nearly every contender will be targeting at the deadline.
Bojan Bogdanovic is a player that was expected to be a hot commodity at the NBA Trade Deadline. At least for now, that is not the case. Because he’s not on the trade block.
Are the Detroit Pistons making a mistake by keeping Bojan Bogdanovic?
No matter what you think about where the Pistons are in their rebuild, this is a big risk that this team is taking regarding Bogdanovic. In what may end up being the best season of his career, the Pistons are essentially electing not to capitalize on that.
He’s going to be 34 later this season and you can make the argument that his trade value may not be any higher than it is right now. The Pistons made a relatively low-risk move when they acquired him during the offseason for Kelly Olynyk, guard Saben Lee, and cash considerations.
Right now, if they wanted to trade him, they could easily get a future first-round pick for him. By bypassing that option and keeping him on the roster, there’s no guarantee that offer will be there, say, in the offseason or early next season.
If this report is indeed true, there could be one of two things at play. For one, it could be the Pistons trying to spark more of a trade market for Bogdanovic. On the other hand, this could also mean they want Bogdanovic to play alongside this team’s young, developing roster.
It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds for the Pistons heading into the NBA Trade Deadline.
