Will the reported disconnect between the Chicago Bulls lead to a fire sale at the NBA Trade Deadline?
Before Tuesday night’s victory over the Miami Heat, the Chicago Bulls had lost four straight games and eight of their last 11. Through the first 30 games of the season, the Bulls are 12-18 and are out of the top 10 in the Eastern Conference standings.
They are in disarray and it’s safe to say that their first third of the season hasn’t gone as planned. And the recent rumblings that are coming out of Chicago are not great.
According to a recent report, there is a disconnect that is taking place in Chicago. So much so that it could prompt some big decisions that need to be made ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline.
The Chicago Bulls don’t seem to be at a breaking point just yet
At least for now, this seems like something that the Bulls are going to be able to overcome. The dirty laundry is out in the open and the only way to fix it is to win or make a roster-shifting trade. They’re going to do everything in their power to do the latter. However, that will be easier said than done.
They may have averted complete disaster by beating the Miami Heat after the report was released. Still, they have to string together a few more wins in order to get some of the heat off themselves. And I suppose the leaders of the team could voice some calmness too. It remains to be seen if that will happen.
For now, especially considering that the NBA Trade Deadline is still a month and a half away, the Bulls have some time to figure things out. Whether or not things will actually change remains to be seen. But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Bulls just yet.
I highly doubt that we see the Bulls pivot to a fire sale at the NBA Trade Deadline. At least for now, the only way I could see that happening is if there are a couple of trade demands that come to light – and they’d likely have to come from DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine to really make a mess for the organization.
I don’t think the Bulls are there yet. But there’s no question that this is a team that should begin to tread carefully over the next few weeks. And you can bet that there are more than a handful of teams around the league that are waiting to pounce if it does get ugly for Chicago.
