NBA Trade Rumors: At least for now, the Washington Wizards, despite their struggles this season, maintain they’re not going to trade Bradley Beal.
The Washington Wizards are 12th in the Eastern Conference standings, six games out of a top 6 seeding, and have lost 12 of their last 15 games. Still, it doesn’t appear they will make a huge move at the NBA Trade Deadline.
At least not one that centers around Bradley Beal, which is what many around the league could be hoping for. The Wizards appear set to miss the playoffs again and recent rumors could force their hand at the NBA Trade Deadline regarding a couple of other players on their roster. However, when it comes to making THE move that many are hoping they make some point soon, that’s not happening.
According to a recent report, the Wizards continue to maintain that they have no desire to trade Beal at the moment. Instead, the team wants to continue to add supporting pieces around Beal in an attempt to make this team competitive once again in the Eastern Conference.
In other words, the Wizards could be looking to shuffle around some of their pieces on the roster. Beal won’t be one of them, however.
The Washington Wizards are set for another retooling?
This can’t be surprising news but it should shut the door on any doubt that there had been that Beal was not going to be part of the Wizards beyond the NBA Trade Deadline. At the same time, I can’t help but think if this is truly the best move forward for the Wizards.
This is a team that has continued and continued to try and surround Beal with the right pieces in an attempt to move the needle in the East. They haven’t been able to do so. They haven’t won a playoff series since the 2016-17 NBA season. That was a long time ago. So long ago that John Wall was still on the roster.
I’m not saying that Beal can’t be the centerpiece of a competitive team but the Wizards have had a hard time proving that recently. They’ve only made the postseason once in the last four years and they’re well on their way to another disappointing finish this year.
You can’t help but think when enough is enough with this build. Beal is a great player and probably has more value elsewhere. If the Wizards aren’t too careful, they’re going to miss the opportunity to cash in on that value. At least for now, the Wizards aren’t moving Beal. Will that end up being a mistake?
