NBA Trade Rumors: In an attempt to land a star opposite of Luka Doncic, Zach LaVine could emerge as a target for the Dallas Mavericks.

After making somewhat of a surprise run to the Western Conference Finals last season, the Dallas Mavericks have taken a clear step back. Part of that is due to the absence of Jalen Brunson and part of that is due to a much deeper Western Conference.

Nevertheless, as we inch closer and closer to the NBA Trade Deadline, one thing is for sure – the Mavs will likely need to make a deal if they’re going to make another deep run in the playoffs. For as great as Luka Doncic has been this season for the Mavs, it’s not fair to expect him to put on his superman cape every night.

Even though he’s managed to do that so far this season en route to averaging 34 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds per game on 51 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from 3-point range, that’s not a great recipe for success in the long run.

And one player that would fit the mold as a star trade target that the team is reportedly keeping an eye on is Chicago Bulls wing Zach LaVine. He may not be currently on the trade block but nearly the entire league is keeping an eye on the situation that is taking place in Chicago.

Keep an eye on what’s happening with the Chicago Bulls

As they continue to struggle, there’s a growing chance that they could end up making some big changes to their roster. I’m not sure if the idea of the Bulls blowing their current blueprint up is entirely off the table. At the very least, there has to be a non-zero chance that they could make a big move.

Whether or not that would include Chicago shopping LaVine remains to be seen, but he’s also the player on their roster that likely holds the most trade value at this point.

And he’d be a sensible target for the Mavs. He’s the perfect second-tier star that they could probably afford on the trade market and one that could play off of Luka. I’m not sure how great of a fit they would be together, but that’s something for the coaching staff to figure out. The front office in Dallas just needs to worry about accumulating talent.

Keeping a close eye on LaVine would be essentially what the Mavs would be doing.

It’s something to keep in mind. LaVine isn’t currently being shopped but could be a player that becomes available soon. And, if so, the Mavs could certainly be involved in any bidding war.
