Miami Heat: 3 trade targets that could awaken a dark horse in the East
Jakob Poeltl, San Antonio Spurs
In what could perhaps be the most realistic of the potential trade targets, the Miami Heat should be looking at Jakob Poeltl as a possible fit on the roster. If the San Antonio Spurs end up shopping him at the NBA Trade Deadline, the Heat should absolutely be one of the teams that, at the very least, make an inquiry.
Over the past two seasons in San Antonio, Poeltl has really broken out as an underrated center. This season with the Spurs, he’s averaging 12 points and nine rebounds on 64 percent shooting from the field. He’s also emerged as one of the better interior defenders at the position. If the Heat wants to slide Bam to the 4, Poeltl would probably represent one of the better center options for the Heat in the trade market.
With how well Poeltl has played over the last two seasons, though, he could be costly. And adding in the fact that Miami would also have to reward him with a new contract after the season, (he’s an unrestricted free agent after this season), the team would have to be sold on his long-term potential if they were to make a move for him at the deadline.
