NBA Trade Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be closing in on Cam Reddish as an NBA Trade Deadline target.

While there appears to be heavy skepticism that the Los Angeles Lakers will end up making a big move at the NBA Trade Deadline, that doesn’t mean the team won’t try to improve the roster will some other small moves over the next few weeks.

And one of those small moves could be for a disgruntled, out-of-place wing.

According to a recent report, one deadline target for the Lakers may end up being New York Knicks wing Cam Reddish. The 23-year-old wing has struggled to find his footing through the first few years of his career and it’s likely that he’s going to be moved by the deadline. He’s also a restricted free agent during the offseason and a player that the Knicks aren’t likely to re-sign.

That should all but open the door for a trade at the deadline. The Lakers appear to be one of the teams willing to take a swing at his raw talent.

Cam Reddish could be a worthwhile low-risk move for the Los Angeles Lakers

Since being acquired by the Knicks at last year’s NBA Trade Deadline, Reddish has struggled to find his footing. This season in New York, he’s averaging eight points on 45 percent shooting from the field. But his role with the team has significantly been reduced over the past month, opening the door for a trade.

The fact that Reddish is still just 23 is a big part of his trade value. He’s been productive early on in his career. That should also count for something. The talent is there. He simply hasn’t been able to put it all together during his short career in the league.

There should be more than a few teams, including the Lakers, that should be willing to take a gamble on Reddish’s talent. For the Lakers, it should be a no-brainer. Especially if making a move for Reddish wouldn’t cost one of their future first-round picks.

It would outrageous to say that acquiring Reddish would significantly change the Lakers’ outlook this season but it’s a move that could end up paying dividends that they can’t envision right now.

And that, more than anything, are the type of deals the Lakers should be interested in making. Especially if they continue to be bullish on moving future assets.
