NBA Trade Rumors: The New York Knicks appear to be one of the teams willing to offer heavy draft capital for OG Anunoby.
Less than two weeks until the NBA Trade Deadline, it would be somewhat surprising if the New York Knicks didn’t make a trade. Whether it’s a move that will improve the roster ahead of the stretch run or thin out some of their depth chart, a move is expected in New York.
And perhaps a big one. New York is one of the few teams in the league that has the ability to make a big move. They have plenty of draft capital and could be aggressive if they feel the right move is there for the taking.
And according to a recent report, the “right move” for the Knicks could involve Toronto Raptors wing OG Anunoby. The report goes on to say that the Knicks “checked in” on Anunoby and he’s a player the Knicks would be willing to offer multiple first-round picks for.
The New York Knicks are looking for the next star to hit the open market
The Knicks are one of the teams that are just waiting to pounce on the next big star to officially hit the open market. And the tea leaves suggest that Anunoby could end up being that star. The Raptors are somewhat of a mess and there are rumblings that Anunoby could want out. Those have not been verified but, generally, where there is smoke there’s usually a fire.
And we know that the Knicks have the necessary draft capital to get a deal done for whatever star hits the open market, whether that’s Anunoby or another big name.
The question that the Knicks must figure out is which star is the right one that will help this team take the next step in their build. Anunoby is one of the best two-way stars in the league today and one of the more underrated and less-talked-about difference-makers.
He’s also a player that may not have even hit the ceiling of what he can be in the NBA. The Anunoby trade market will be interesting to follow over the next couple of weeks. But it would be surprising if he was moved at the deadline. I think the real chance that he could be moved is during the offseason.
