NBA Trade Rumors: Rockets could make a move for Myles Turner, John Collins
NBA Trade Rumors: In need of added guidance to an extremely young roster, the Houston Rockets could target Myes Turner or John Collins at the trade deadine.
As one of the youngest teams in the league, the Houston Rockets have predictably struggled this season. As one of the teams that many expected to take a tangible step forward with all its young talent, that’s now exactly what has transpired this season.
Instead of taking a step forward, the Rockets are the worst team in the league (with only 11 wins thus far) and have more questions than answers following this team this season. What was once viewed as one of the most talented young cores in the league is now being questioned.
Are the Rockets indeed on the right path? It’s something that the front office must answer. And soon. With the NBA Trade Deadline less than two weeks away, the next step for this franchise could prove to be a vital one.
While the team will have plenty of options, at least one of them (according to a recent report) could involve making a move for an established veteran star. Per The Athletic, the Rockets have registered some interest in the possibility of making a move for either John Collins or Myles Turner at the trade deadline in an attempt to add some stability to their young core.
Should the Houston Rockets shake up their roster?
If the Rockets were to go down that path, it would be a costly move to add either Collins or Turner. And you’d have to imagine if the Rockets truly wanted Turner (who is from Texas), they could probably wait until the offseason when they could sign him outright without losing an asset or two.
But there is a certain risk that comes with that. If he were to get moved at the deadline it would likely come with the guarantee that he’s probably going to sign an extension with whatever team acquires him.
Collins is an interesting option. He clearly needs a fresh start and the Rockets would be a solid landing spot. He’d be featured on the offensive end once again and could grow beside some of the most talented young players in the game (Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, Alperen Sengun).
All of a sudden, there are major questions as to whether or not the Rockets have a foundational core to build around. That’s far from a foregone conclusion and perhaps making a move at the trade deadline for an established star would be a good next step for the team. The question is, is that something they are strongly considering or not? We may find out soon.
