Breaking down a proposed trade that could vault the Dallas Mavericks into contender status. Is it something that the Mavs should pursue at the trade deadline?

Heading into the NBA Trade Deadline, the expectation is that the Dallas Mavericks will try to make a move. After making a run to the Western Conference Finals last season, the Mavs took somewhat of a step back during the offseason after losing Jalen Brunson in free agency.

That said, it’s difficult to see a move out there that would guarantee the Mavs getting back to that place they were last season. Because of that, it puts the Mavs in a difficult situation heading into the trade deadline.

There’s no guarantee that the Dallas Mavericks will make a move at the trade deadline

But while there’s no guarantee that the Mavs will make a deal at the deadline, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t explore all potential options. And there’s one intriguing proposed deal, from ESPN, that would make a ton of sense for the Mavs.

In fact, it just doesn’t make a ton of sense, I’d argue that if the Mavs were to be able to pull off such a move it would result in them vaulting back into contender status in the Western Conference.
