Why this proposed trade works for the Brooklyn Nets
With Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry, the Nets are quite set at the point guard position. Moving on from Patty Mills would hurt the team’s depth at that position but Josh Richardson would add a defensive element that Mills, Curry, or Irving can’t offer.
Plus, Richardson coudl replace some of the shooting that they would lose with Joe Harris at the shooting guard spot too. More than anything, adding Zach Collins would greatly help the team’s frontcourt depth – and that’s more of what this deal is about.
Collins is having arguably the best season of his career while averaging 10 points and six rebounds per game on 54 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent shooting from 3-point range. The addition of Collins also allows Ben Simmons to play of the point guard position, giving the team even more depth.
This is the type of low-level move that may not seem like a big deal at the NBA Trade Deadline but could end up paying dividends for the Nets in the postseason.
