Why this deal would work for the Miami Heat

On the surface, this deal may not seem like it pays off much for the Heat. However, acquiring Gordon would solidify the team’s backcourt, and adding Martin would give this team the frontcourt depth that they need to be competitive heading into the playoffs.

In fairness, this probably isn’t a trade that would move the Heat into tier 1 in the Eastern Conference. But they should be able to close the gap on tier 2 and could potentially be a dark horse threat to make some noise in the postseason. Especially if Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, Tyler Herro, and Bam Adebayo are healthy.

If Miami is looking to acquire a star that will completely change their ceiling this season, I find it hard to believe that they’re going to find the right deal. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be deals out there that can’t improve the roster heading into the second half of the season.
