NBA Trade Rumors: At least for now, the Phoenix Suns aren’t looking to trade Chris Paul by the deadline.
As the Phoenix Suns attempt to make a move back up the Western Conference standings, this is a team that is expected to be extremely aggressive heading into next week’s NBA Trade Deadline. The Suns have some flexibility and a desire to want to continue to surround Devin Booker will the necessary supporting cast to get back into the title picture in the West.
At least for now, though, it doesn’t appear that the Suns are looking to move on from Chris Paul. If the Suns do make a move at the trade deadline, it likely won’t include Paul. Even though he has struggled somewhat this season, it appears that Phoenix wants to add a piece that will be a complement to Booker and Paul and not replace one of their big two. Specifically Paul.
However, there’s a chance that could change heading into the offseason. If the Suns have another disappointing end to their season, perhaps a first-round loss or even worse, it wouldn’t be surprising if they decided to make some big changes this summer.
That could change for the Phoenix Suns during the offseason
The Suns are in an interesting place in their build. This is a team that even though may seem on the cusp of being a contender in the West could end up making some big moves if they fall short of making another deep playoff run.
Paul is only getting older and there is still a question as to whether or not Deandre Ayton is part of this team’s fundamental blueprint. If the Suns fall short again, a retooling of the team has to be on the table heading into the offseason.
What that would entail remains to be seen but it would be foolish for the Suns to run this team back if they lose in the first round of the playoffs this season.
The good news is that Booker is great. He continues to grow as a superstar and when he’s healthy, the Suns can beat any team on any given night. That’s something that should give Phoenix hope no matter what happens in the postseason.
The Suns could be on the verge of some big changes. And not just at the top of the organization. At least for now, it doesn’t appear they will blow everything up at the trade deadline. In the offseason, that’s another question for another day.
