NBA Trade Rumors: The Brooklyn Nets are still looking to make another move to upgrade the roster around Kevin Durant before the NBA Trade Deadline.
The Brooklyn Nets didn’t waste much time in their pursuits of trading Kyrie Irving. Just two days after he requested a trade from the Nets, Brooklyn officially sent him to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a future first-round pick, and two future second-round picks.
Even after trading Kyrie, there is reason to believe that the Nets could still make some noise in the Eastern Conference as long as Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons are healthy heading into the playoffs. That said, I think it’s safe to say that the Nets are no longer the dark horse championship contender that many believed they were at this point last week (before the Kyrie Irving situation blew up).
But it’s clear that the Nets still have the desire to compete and win without Kyrie. They don’t want to allow this season to go to waste and they can’t if they have any hope of keeping Kevin Durant around moving forward. And it would be prudent of them to prove to KD that they can still be competitive without Kyrie.
The Brooklyn Nets are looking to add a difference-maker at the NBA Trade Deadline
And one way that they could theoretically do that is by making another big move at the NBA Trade Deadline in an attempt to upgrade the roster around KD. That’s exactly what the Nets will be looking to do, according to a recent report, leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline.
The Nets have some pieces and draft picks that could be attractive to other teams leading up to the deadline. And finding the right fit will be important, but there are clearly some difference-makers that are on the trade block that would make sense for this team.
Assuming that KD will be healthy over the course of the next two weeks, at the very least after the NBA Trade Deadline, there’s an argument to be made that the season isn’t entirely lost for the Nets. Especially if a few of their players are willing to take bigger roles around KD.
If they could add another piece at the NBA Trade Deadline, perhaps the Nets can slowly reemerge as a threat, once again, in the East. The Nets should be aggressive heading into the deadline. They have no other choice at this point.
