Kyle Lowry is traded to the Los Angeles Lakers
This is an interesting move for both teams and the probability of it happening at the deadline rose simply based on Kyrie Irving landing on the Mavericks. But this is complicated and would need some reasoning if it comes to fruition. Let’s start with why it would work for the Los Angeles Lakers.
In an attempt to get out from under Russell Westbrook’s contract, the Lakers would be willing to take on Duncan Robinson’s contract to get Kyle Lowry. It’s a swap that would potentially help the starting unit and perhaps would also help the team’s 3-point shooting with Robinson (when he gets healthy).
From the Miami Heat’s perspective, because the Lakers are taking on Lowry and Robinson, they would bypass a future first-round pick from the Lakers. It’s a gamble that the Heat is willing to take so they can have a bit more flexibility heading into the offseason.
Is this an ideal move for either team heading into the NBA Trade Deadline? Probably not, but it at least puts both teams in a better position for what they’re looking to be in the next few months.
