Josh Richardson to the Cleveland Cavaliers

This is a deal that just makes sense for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the San Antonio Spurs. The Cavs are in search of a wing that can play multiple positions and, most importantly, emerges as a versatile defender for the team. That’s exactly what Josh Richardson embodies as a player, even at this point in his career.

The Spurs likely don’t want to take on any contract in a potential trade of Richardson, who is an expiring contract after this season, and that’s what Caris LeVert represents for the Spurs. The Cavs would also throw in a future second-round pick for doing business.

If San Antonio wanted, they could even send LeVert to a third team and expand this deal or keep him around and perhaps re-sign him to a small prove-it deal if he doesn’t get the contract he desires during free agency.

As the trade deadline clock winds down, this is a deal that makes a lot of sense for many reasons.
