NBA Rumors: The Miami Heat may be preparing to bring Kyle Lowry off the bench when he returns from injury.

After deciding against making a move at the NBA Trade Deadline, the Miami Heat were looking to make an addition or two via the NBA’s buyout market. And it appears that they’re going to make two. According to recent reports, the Heat intend on signing Kevin Love and Cody Zeller for the remainder of the season.

Part of the reason the Heat decided against signing two bigs and not one big and a guard is the fact that Kyle Lowry is expected back from injury sooner than the team initially expected, according to a recent report. But that’s not the only bit of news. Additionally, there’s also some speculation that when Lowry does return, he could return to a bench role.

In a tweet that suggested Lowry would return sooner than expected, it was noted that Lowry would be willing to embrace “any role that is asked of him.” That’s an interesting way to put a possible return of Lowry. And that leaves open to a possible bench role for him as he has struggled this season as the team’s starting point guard.

Kyle Lowry coming off the bench could work for the Miami Heat

While Lowry has struggled for the most part this season, coming off the bench for the Heat could work and solve some of the team’s issues. Lowry may not be a high-level starter at this point in his career, but he’s absolutely good enough to head a second unit. And with the team’s issues that they’ve had with bench production, Lowry could help on that front.

Plus, inserting Gabe Vincent in the starting 5 could give the Heat a shooter that would fit better than Lowry has so far this season. Maybe Vincent is the piece that would help stabilize this team’s starting unit.

At the same time, Lowry could be the player that helps stabilize the team’s bench. Either way, it’s clear that the status quo hasn’t worked. And perhaps a reworked rotation is what it will take for the Heat to start clicking again.

And with the additions of Kevin Love and Cody Zeller, that’s exactly what the Heat will have exiting the All-Star break.

I’m not sure what the Heat’s new rotation will look like and there’s really no predicting what Erik Spoelstra will lean on, but perhaps we could see a new starting 5 that features Vincent, Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Love, and Bam Adebayo with a bench unit that centers around Lowry, Victor Oladipo, Caleb Martin, and Zeller.

It may not be ideal but perhaps it’s something that could inject the team with some momentum heading into the push toward the playoffs.
