Reason No. 3: He is innovative
The final reason is that Quin Snyder is innovative. One issue with the Hawks this season (and a little bit last year as well) is that things just seem to grow stagnant. The ball starts to stick in hands, there isn’t a ton of off-ball movement, and things have just seemed listless at times.
Trae Young is one of the most gifted passers in the game today (on top of his scoring). Dejounte Murray is extremely athletic, a very good slasher, and a good passer as well. With those two running the show, the Hawks could feature a very exciting offense. That hasn’t necessarily come to fruition yet (due to several reasons, one being just simply Young and Mitchell needing an adjustment period to playing together), however, I believe that a Snyder-led offense could help capitalize on the talents of Young and Murray as two of the best playmakers in the league.
One way that I believe he can do so is with a heavy dose of the pick-and-roll. Young is one of the most dangerous PnR point guards in the league, and Capela, Collins, and Okongwu are all strong dunkers and finishers. Snyder has shown a proclivity to use the PnR a lot in the past, and I believe that is just one of the ways he can help maximize the talent in Atlanta.
I feel as if the Hawks are a franchise that just needs a bit of a spark at the moment to help capitalize on a very talented roster, and I believe that Snyder can help provide that. Not only as a voice, but through an innovative system, as a developer, and as an experienced and quality coach.
