3 Longshots That Can Win the NBA Championship
Cleveland Cavaliers (+2500)
Sitting at 38-23 as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Cavaliers check every box of a contender. They’ve got the second-best net rating (5.8) on the season spearheaded by the league’s best defensive rating (109.3) and the 10th-best offense (115).
Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen make up one of the NBA’s most fearsome defensive duos, while Donovan Mitchell is blossoming into a top-10 player before our eyes.
Especially in a relatively weak East, there is no better futures value than the Cavaliers. Snatch this value up before it’s too late.
New Orleans Pelicans (+5000)
The Pelicans had the NBA’s best record before Zion Williamson went down, and they’re still as deep as any team in the league.
This bet hinges entirely on Zion’s health. If he returns in time for the playoffs, few teams can match the trio of him, Brandon Ingram and C.J. McCollum. Throw in excellent depth pieces like Jonas Valančiūnas, Herb Jones, and Jose Alvarado, and you’ve got a championship contender.
Without Zion, the Pels don’t stand a chance in a brutal Western Conference. But if he returns and is anything close to the player we saw earlier this season, these odds are an almost-criminal value.
Miami Heat (+5000)
Currently the seventh seed in the East with a 32-27 record, there’s no denying that Miami has struggled this season. Nonetheless, I’m reminded of Draymond Green’s quote about 16-game players vs. 82-game players.
In the playoffs, you want guys who can compete in a short series. Between Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Kyle Lowry, Tyler Herro, and others, Miami definitely has 16-game players.
If the Heat can stay healthy, no team in the East will want to face them. Don’t forget, the Heat were one Butler missed three-pointer away from a Finals run last year!
Miami still has one of the best defenses in basketball and clutch scorers in Butler and Herro. They’ll be a tough out in the playoffs, and just one series win would make these odds shrink in a hurry.
No matter which team you want to bet on, just be sure to sign up for FanDuel first and secure your $1,000 bet insurance. A $1,000 bet on the Heat, for example, would profit $50,000 if they win!
