NBA Trade Rumors: With as many changes the Atlanta Hawks have made, there is one bigger one that could come during the offseason.
The Atlanta Hawks are one of the teams that could explore some big changes during the offseason. And we’re already seeing perhaps the groundwork for that with the moves that they’ve already made to the front office structure and as they try to find their new head coach.
Could roster changes be next on the docket?
According to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss, he believes that the Hawks are going to begin exploring potential trades for Trae Young. And he believes that they will begin doing so this offseason. If that is indeed so, we could be in for another chaotic offseason. With the Hawks, this time, being at the center of the offseason madness.
Would the Atlanta Hawks trade Trae Young?
This is actually quite an interesting question heading into the offseason for the Hawks. On one hand, it would seem quite outlandish that the Hawks would trade their young superstar. On the other, if the Hawks really wanted to shake up the roster, he’s the one player that would give them a huge return to help the team jump-start whatever changes they wanted to make.
Despite whatever internal concerns the Hawks may have with Young, at just 24 years old there’s no question that his trade market would be colossal. The Hawks would likely be able to recoup multiple future first-round draft picks along with some young talent in exchange for Young on the open market.
And assuming that this report or this gut instinct, whatever you want to call it, is indeed accurate, it makes you wonder if these rumblings have any sort of connection to the big move that the Hawks made during last offseason when they acquired Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs.
Putting on my conspiracy theory hat, perhaps making a move for Murray was more about the possibility of having to make a decision on Young rather than trying to find a running mate for him in the long run.
Ideally, the Hawks would want the duo of Young and Murray to work. Perhaps they’ve come to the realization that it won’t and they’re open to shopping Young around to see what his market would be this offseason. It’s beginning to seem that way.
