NBA Rumors: The Phoenix Suns are still looking for another ball-handler. Should John Wall be an option for the Western Conference contender?
Nearly three weeks after making the big move for Kevin Durant, the new-look Phoenix Suns are finally expected to be intact Wednesday night. KD will make his anticipated debut for the Suns as he’s ready to make his return from injury, one that has had him sidelined since January 8th.
It will be interesting to see what this team looks like over the next few weeks heading into the postseason. Even without KD, the Suns were a strong team and an outside dark horse contender in the West. With KD, though, this is a team that is expected to be one of the favorites to make a deep run in the playoffs.
And if this team can click right away and stay healthy, there’s no reason to believe why the Suns can’t seemingly win the NBA title this season. The start of that will be marked by the return of KD.
But the Suns may not even be done making moves. According to a recent report, the Suns could still be looking for another ball-handler for the stretch run. And one player that could be in play is John Wall.
The question is, would Wall be a smart move for the Suns to make?
John Wall could have something left in the tank in the right situation
During his 34 games played with the LA Clippers this season, Wall averaged 11 points and five assists per game on 41 percent shooting from the field. It may not have been the efficiency that he wanted coming into this season but there is a case to be made that he could still be an asset for a team in the right situation.
I also think that it’s easy to forget that Wall is still only 32 years old. He is well beyond the prime years of his career but he’s at least proven that he can be somewhat useful for a team. Whether or not the Suns are the right team remains to be seen. But would it really be that surprising if he got a chance to prove himself ahead of the start of the playoffs? Especially considering how much depth the Suns must figure out how to replace after the big trade for KD.
The Suns are going to be an interesting team to watch over the course of the final weeks of the regular season and into the playoffs.
