12. Washington Wizards – Cam Whitmore, F, Villanova
Back to square one sort to speak, the Washington Wizards can’t afford to miss on another lottery pick. There’s an argument to be made that they made a terrible selection last year when they took Johnny Davis. Even though he can still recover as an NBA player – it would be foolish to count him out right now – the Wizards haven’t really done him any favors in his development.
Nevertheless, the Wizards can’t afford to miss on another lottery pick. That’s where taking somewhat of a safe pick such as Cam Whitmore could make some sense for the team. Whitmore’s athleticism and prototypical size make him a solid gamble.
Though he still has much to prove when it comes to his shooting prowess, I’d have to believe some of that will improve once he gets around NBA coaching. Whitmore is averaging 13 points and five rebounds on 47 percent shooting from the field.
