At this year’s NBA Trade Deadline, the Dallas Mavericks went all-in on this season and acquired Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. So far, the results have been hit or miss. On paper, you would assume that the duo of Kyrie and Luka Doncic would be something that could not be defended by any other team in the league. However, the Mavs are only 5-7 in games that Kyrie has played for the team since the trade.

Kyrie is a free agent after the season and there’s at least an outside chance that the Mavs end up moving away from him if this season doesn’t end on a high note. If that does end up being the case, would it be surprising if the Mavs went whale-hunting for another star on the open market? One intriguing fit next to Luka could be Jimmy Butler. Jimmy would automatically become the best player that Luka has ever played with and would be a much different player than Kyrie.

If Luka is the player that the Mavs believe that he is, it would be interesting to see what he could do next to a player as talented as Jimmy.
