Has the NBA MVP award race come down to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid?

Roughly three weeks before the start of the NBA Playoffs, there is still plenty that needs to be sorted out before we get to the Play-In Tournament. While all the attention seems to revolve around the seeding in both the East and West, there is a pretty important NBA MVP award race that perhaps has still not been settled.

As of late, though, it seems that the NBA MVP race is going to come down to Giannis Antetokounmpo or Joel Embiid, with Nikola Jokic a distant third at this point.

Has Nikola Jokic fallen out of the NBA MVP race?

Over the last few weeks, there’s a case to be made that Jokic has completely fallen out of the NBA MVP race. Well, he will still likely finish as the third-most vote-getter, but it would be extremely surprised if he finished in the top 2. And a big part of Jokic’s fade in the NBA MVP race has been due to the team’s recent play of late.

The Nuggets have lost five of their last seven games are have been left scrambling as of late in an attempt to rediscover their prime form heading into the playoffs. There’s a chance the Nuggets have fallen into a bit of a lull considering they have all but secured the top seed in the Western Conference and don’t have a ton to play for anymore.

Despite that, I still would’ve loved to see Jokic throw himself into a such historic company to win three-straight NBA MVPs. Nevertheless, assuming the NBA MVP race has come down to Giannis and Embiid, let’s try to break it all down.
