NBA MVP Race: Is the award down to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid?
The case for Giannis
Since January 23, the Milwaukee Bucks have been head and shoulders the best team in the NBA. Since that point in the season, the Bucks are 22-3, have a top-5 offense and defense, and have the best net rating in the league. A big reason why they have suddenly risen to the top of the Eastern Conference is the play of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
As difficult as it may be to believe, Giannis is arguably having the best season of his career thus far. Heading into the final stretch of the season, Giannis is averaging 31 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists on 55 percent shooting from the field. He is clearly the best player in the NBA right now and has his team playing at a level that could win it all again.
The big question is whether this final stretch of the season surge by Giannis and the Bucks is good enough to deliver an NBA MVP award. If the Bucks finish as the top seed in the East and with the best record in the NBA, which is looking more and more like the most likely outcome, Giannis will have a really good chance to win this year’s NBA MVP.
