The case for Embiid
There’s an argument to be made that with just a few games remaining in the regular season that Joel Embiid has played his way into being the NBA MVP favorite. Embiid has helped lead the Sixers to a 48-23 record and are just one game back of the second-seeded Boston Celtics. The Sixers have the look of a real contender in the East and this is a team that has the potential to make a deep playoff run.
Individually, Embiid is having the best season of his career thus far while averaging 34 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists per game on 55 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent shooting from 3-point range. The fact that Embiid has been arguably the best center this season with Jokic playing at an MVP level tells you all you need to know about the season he’s having.
Embiid and the Sixers will ultimately be judged by how they perform in the postseason but at least individually speaking, Embiid has put together a season for the ages. In any other year, he’d probably be a slam dunk NBA MVP award winner. This season, it’s still up in the air.
