NBA Mock Draft 5.0: Detroit Pistons create young super team; big-name is traded
9. Orlando Magic (via Chicago Bulls) – Cason Wallace, G, Kentucky
After already taking one guard with Ausar Thompson early in the top 10, it wouldn’t be all that surprising for the Orlando Magic to double-dip on another guard prospect. This time, they will roll the dice on Cason Wallace, a rangy guard that has the potential to be really good on defense and a solid 3-point shooter at the next level. He adds a different element than Thompson would for the Magic.
Wallace seems like a player that just gets it. He tends to be at the right place at the right time and has a constant motor – and you see that on the defensive end of the floor. He also averaged 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists on 35 percent shooting from 3-point range. Where Thompson leaves much to be desired, Wallace somewhat answers the call.
With a loaded frontcourt, the Magic could look to try and finally find the answer at point guard. While taking two of them may not make sense in theory, it’s one way to give this franchise a surefire shot to finally find the man of the future at the position.
