Hitting a home run with their projected top 5 NBA Draft pick

A primary avenue for acquiring talent is the NBA Draft. Too bad for the Hornets, they have a track record of messing that up too.

James Bouknight, who was the 11th overall in the 2021 draft, ended up being more of a swing and a miss. Hindsight is 20:20 but the Hornets could have drafted Alpren Sengun, Trey Murphy, or even “Bones” Hyland.

Kai Jones, the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, also ended up being a whiff by the team. The same could be said about JT Thor, the team’s 37th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. With three opportunities in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Hornets landed on no true contributors.

Last season, the Hornets took Mark Williams, and while he has shown flashes of potential, the jury is still out on him. With the contract extension of Nick Richards, it seems that the center position is locked up but are any of these players core parts of the future?

LaMelo Ball needs help and the best way that the Hornets can do that is by making the right selection with their high draft pick. Though, especially for the Hornets, that has often been easier said than done.
