Making a smart, calculated addition in free agency

The need for talent is apparent. Outside of LaMelo Ball at the point guard position, the rest of the roster is up for grabs. You have experience on the roster in the forms of Terry Rozier and Gordon Hayward, but even their futures are far from certain in Charlotte.

Hayward is a great basketball player when healthy and that has been the story of Hayward since leaving Utah. On the other hand, you have Terry Rozier who may have the most trade value on the roster. Rozier has proven that he can handle both PG and SG duties as necessary while showing defensive intensity. His contract is much more valuable and thus moveable, and that’s something the team could end up exploring this offseason.

In the past, the acquisition of free agents for the Hornets was done in the right manner, just not to the appropriate level. Charlotte has pulled the B-level players, partly because of the price tag of the star and market size but the prior owner’s pockets hindered that. Any way you slice it, LaMelo Ball needs help. And perhaps that may come by spending in free agency.
