The Los Angeles Lakers are emerging as a popular dark horse NBA championship contender, but should we buy their chances as real?

The Los Angeles Lakers are 38-38 and are just a half-game out of the 7th seed in the Western Conference. LeBron James is back and this is a team that, to some, might be peaking at just the right time. Since the NBA Trade Deadline, the Lakers have looked (and played) like a much different team.

And in a wide-open West, the chatter surrounding the Lakers rounding into form just ahead of the start of the postseason is gaining traction. A week and a half before the start of the NBA’s postseason, you can’t help but wonder, could the Lakers make a run in what appears to be an unproven West?

You can make the argument that in any other season, the answer to this question would’ve been no. However, with so many uncertainties in the conference, I don’t think it’s something we can entirely ignore.

The Los Angeles Lakers are finally healthy

Heading into the playoffs, it appears that the Los Angeles Lakers are finally going to be fully healthy with all hands on deck. The big question, however, is whether or not that will equate to the Lakers being a legit title contender in the Western Conference.

As we inch closer and closer to the start of the NBA Playoffs, we argue (with three reasons) that the Lakers should be considered a dark horse threat to win it all this season.
