NBA Rumors: The Houston Rockets are expected to be one of the teams to pursue Jaylen Brown via trade during the offseason.

There are a couple of things that have become clear entering the final week of the regular season. One, it seems that the Houston Rockets are going to try to significantly upgrade its roster this offseason and there are many big names that could be available either via free agency or the trade block, and one of those possible names is Jaylen Brown.

The Rockets have already been linked as a possible landing spot for James Harden during the offseason and it seems that they’re also keeping a close eye on the situation that may be unfolding in Boston regarding Brown.

According to a recent report, the whispers are that the Rockets plan on heading in a new direction this offseason and they are expected to be one of the teams that try to target Brown via trade. Of course, that’s easier said than done. And for that to even become an option, there are plenty of things that have to fall into place for the Rockets.

There’s no guarantee that Jaylen Brown will even be on the trade block this offseason

For one, there’s no guarantee that Brown will even be an option for the Rockets, or any other team for that matter, during the offseason. Brown is eligible for a contract extension with the Celtics this offseason but he also has one year fully guaranteed left on his contract, with no opt-out clause.

If he really wants out of Boston and doesn’t want to wait until he can test free agency after the 2023-24 NBA season, he’s going to have to muddy up things and make this messy. And quite frankly, that’s not something that many players have been willing to do recently.

Would it be insane to think that Brown may be happy riding out this season and waiting until he can test free agency to possibly move on from the Celtics (if that’s something he even wants to do)? No, in fact, if all the smoke around Brown is in fact true, I don’t expect him to make a mess of things.

Even less so considering he’s on a winning team that’s going to have a great chance to win the NBA Championship this season, and probably next as well.

But it’s becoming quite clear that there are many teams around the league that believe Jaylen Brown could be had during the offseason, perhaps even more so if the Celtics have a disappointing end to the season. And the Rockets appear to be one team to watch.
