There’s this assumption that the Miami Heat is going to figure out things this offseason. And while that may end up being the case, I’m not sure that’s a foregone conclusion. The Heat is a team that is in a terrible salary cap position and one that doesn’t have many assets that they can float in an attempt to lure a star via trade. Could it happen, sure? However, I don’t think it’s likely to happen this offseason.

And if it doesn’t happen this offseason, there’s really no incentive for this team to keep Jimmy Butler on the roster. He’s near the end of his prime years in the league and at this point in his career, he may be better suited for a team that is closer to winning an NBA title. He has had a good run in Miami, but I think it’s time for us all to realize that it may be the end.

I’d have to assume that the Heat’s front office and Jimmy will have a conversation at some point this offseason. It will be about the future and where this team is moving toward, and I believe that there’s at least an outside chance that the conversation ends with Jimmy demanding (or asking for) a trade.
