NBA Rumors: The Houston Rockets and head coach Stephen Silas are expected to part ways after the season.

It’s been a difficult season for the Houston Rockets. They are once again projected to have another top 3 draft pick after only winning 21 games. If you’re looking for a bright side, they did win one more game than last season and four more games from a franchise-worst 17-win season a couple of seasons ago.

But the Rockets didn’t have as much of an improvement that perhaps many expected them to this season. In the end, the Rockets are still at ground zero of what is supposed to be the start of a new rebuild. And because the Rockets haven’t made much progress, there has to be someone to blame.

And according to a recent report, part of that blame will fall on head coach Stephen Silas who is expected to be let go after the season. It’s truly an unfortunate situation as Silas was put in an unreal situation.

Stephen Silas never had a chance as the Houston Rockets’ head coach

Silas was hired in 2020, but before he could even get his feet wet as the team’s head coach, turmoil struck and the Rockets were not the team they were when he was originally hired. Houston quickly turned around and traded Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards and then James Harden famously demanded a trade and would up with the Brooklyn Nets.

Since then, the Rockets have been trying to rebuild on the fly and it hasn’t really worked. Does that mean Silas is blameless here? I’m not sure, but at the same time, this is not really the job that Silas was hired for.

And that could be difficult for any new hire. Essentially, Silas was given one job and then the floor was pulled out from under him.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Rockets operate during the offseason. This is a team that has already been linked to possible interest in a James Harden reunion and one that is monitoring the situation that is taking place between Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics.

If nothing else, that could be an indication that the Rockets are going to be aggressive during the offseason. And if this report is true, that the team is going to move on from Silas, hopefully, it ends up working out for both sides.

Silas deserves another opportunity. He never had a chance in Houston.
