NBA Mock Draft 6.0: Blazers jump into top 3; Mavs find Luka Doncic some help
7. Washington Wizards – Cason Wallace, G, Kentucky
The Washington Wizards have so much uncertainty that is revolving around this team heading into the offseason but I don’t think there are any outside factors that should impact the plan heading into the NBA Draft. And one player that would make sense for the Wizards on multiple fronts, whether they continue to retool around Bradley Beal or decide to hit the reset button, is Cason Wallace.
Wallace may not be the overall prospect that the Thompson brothers are at this point in his development but he may be the best defender in this year’s draft class and has shown the ability to be a good offensive playmaker. He also shot 35 percent from 3-point range on nearly four attempts per game during his freshman season at Kentucky.
Wallace is a player that could grow into a defined role for the Wizards as currently constructed or could even be part of a rebuilding plan moving forward. Wallace will need a few years to fully hit his potential but there’s reason to believe that he could be a really good player for a really long time in the NBA.
