NBA Mock Draft 7.0: Spurs make shocking pick at No. 2; Blazers trade Damian Lillard
8. Indiana Pacers – Jarace Walker, F, Houston
The Indiana Pacers are heading into the offseason in hopes of making an addition or two that would help catapult the team up the Eastern Conferene standings heading into next season. And a top 10 pick could go a long way in accomplishing that. With the No. 8 pick, a prospect such as Jarace Walker could be in play for Indiana.
At least initially, Walker is going to have the opportunity to be a versatile defender. He will be able to guard multiple positions and will be able to feast on that end of the floor. But what makes Walker special and a consensus top-10 pick is that’s not all that he is. Walker also has shown the ability to be a difference-maker on the offensive end of the floor. He shot 35 percent shooting from 3-point range and averaged 11 points per game in an offense where he wasn’t even featured.
I’m not saying that when he makes the jump to the NBA that he should be a featured offensive player but the fact that he was still to leave his imprint on that end of the floor without playing a huge role offensively is not something that should go unnoticed. Walker would be an intriguing addition to any team, including one that is on the rise such as the Pacers.
