Step 3: Sign a veteran leader (star) in free agency

Once the NBA Draft is taken care of, the Houston Rockets will then shift its attention to free agency. And this summer, the Rockets are projected to have significant cap space. They will have $40-plus million and could get to a point where they could create $60-plus million in cap space heading into free agency. And if the Rockets want to improve their roster, this is probably the quickest way for the team to do so this offseason.

The Rockets have already been linked to veteran stars James Harden and Jaylen Brown. Whether any of that actually comes to fruition or not remains to be seen but it’s a clear indication that this team will be looking for splash moves this offseason in an attempt to greatly improve the roster.

If the Rockets can land a veteran star, it would make life so much easier for this team’s young core. They wouldn’t have to rely upon every game and would be given a player that they can look up to as they continue to grow as pros. Right now, the Rockets simply don’t have that type of player on the roster.
