Veterans must step up

Regardless of Davis’s poor performance in Game 2, that game was still very much within reach. The Grizzlies only won by 10 as the Lakers only had four players in double figures. James kept the Lakers in the game for as long as he could and Rui Hachimura had another stellar performance but it wasn’t enough.

Austin Reaves was also solid once again in the loss as he contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists but the Lakers can’t rely on these two young players to carry them. D’Angelo Russell is a seasoned veteran and has to play like one if the Lakers are going to take back control of this series.

Also disappointing was the uninspired play of Dennis Schroder as he had 0 points in 16 minutes played. If either Russell or Schroder scored another 10 points between each other then the Lakers would’ve had a realistic opportunity to get the victory. That’s why it’s imperative for these veterans to produce. Russell has to become more aggressive and just stop settling for jump shots.

He has to find ways to get into the lane, try to draw double teams, and kick it to an open teammate or get to the foul line. Russell can’t keep shooting contested shots and expect positive results.
