Amen Thompson, G, Overtime Elite

When looking at the rest of the 2023 NBA Draft class in search of possible franchise-altering prospects, I searched for uniqueness, a high-level skill set, and physical tools that are not as common. Especially when it comes to prospects that perhaps are not “surefire” stars. And after Victor, Scoot, and Miller, it could be somewhat difficult to identify or predict other potential prospects with the potential to change the trajectory of a franchise.

Using those pretenses, I believe Amen Thompson fits the billing of a player that could end up being franchise-altering. Thompson is 6-foot-7, which is great and somewhat uncommon size for the point guard position, is an athletic freak, and has the potential to be a special playmaker at the next level. If – and I suppose that’s a big “if” – his shooting efficiency catches up with the rest of his game, he has the potential to be quite the dynamic player.

But despite this potential and raw talent, there are legit questions about Thompson. Playing for Overtime Elite instead of college or even the G League, we haven’t really seen him against top-level competition for any consistent amount of time.

That may end up being one of the bigger reasons why he isn’t drafted higher than No. 4 or 5 overall.
