Cleveland Cavaliers FA target No. 4: Josh Richardson, unrestricted

Looking for a player that could play in the backcourt or even on the wing, Josh Richardson is a potential free-agent target that could make a lot of sense. He’s an unrestricted free agent and after being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans at the NBA Trade Deadline this past season, there’s at least an outside chance that he could elect to pursue other options now that he finally has a chance to pick his landing spot.

Richardson isn’t a pure point guard or shooting guard. He can play both positions, though, and can even play some small forward in some situations. He’s a versatile defender and can be an effective offensive player off-ball. In the 23 games he played in New Orleans after the trade, Richardson averaged eight points on 38 percent shooting from 3-point range.

If the Cavs were looking for a player that would appear to be a seamless fit next to Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell as a backcourt rotation, Richardson would be a solid target. He would seem to be part of the solution and not the final piece, however.
