Milwaukee Bucks: 4 Offseason-shaping questions that need to be answered
Should re-signing Khris Middleton be a priority
Another big question that the Bucks will need to answer heading into the offseason is whether or not they will make re-signing Khris Middleton a priority. He has one year remaining (a player option) on his contract and you’d have to imagine that he’s almost definitely going to decline it to hit free agency in an attempt to sign a long-term deal. I guess the question the Bucks need to ask themselves is whether or not they want Middleton back.
On the surface, it may seem like a no-brainer. After all, Middleton has emerged as arguably the second-most important player on the team recently and was instrumental to the team’s run to their first NBA Championship in team history. However, his injury history is not something that will have the Bucks running to give him a huge deal.
Middleton hasn’t played 70 games in each of the last three seasons. He missed most of the playoffs last year due to an untimely injury and missed most of this season as well. He will also be 32 years old by the time next season begins.
It may seem like a foregone conclusion that Middleton will be back but if the Bucks wanted to retool Giannis, they could theoretically this season. And it would start by letting Middleton walk in free agency.
