NBA Rumors: 4 Offseason targets to help Detroit Pistons take big step forward
Jonathan Isaac (trade target)
If the Pistons want to continue to grab talented yet discarded players, look no further than Jonathan Isaac. While also technically not a free agent, $17 million is pretty expensive for an often-injured player. My hope is that the Magic will look to trade him to try to find success elsewhere, like Detroit.
Isaac was once considered the Minister of Defense for his defensive IQ and body positioning. Measuring at a conservative 6-foot-11, not accounting for the hair, gives him the length to be versatile enough to cover any position on the court. Point guards to centers don’t want to see a healthy Jonathan Isaac.
Just when you think his offense was leaps behind his all-defense caliber mindset, there was growth in his offensive game as well. Steadily increases his scoring output each year. After those two years off for recovery, Isaac bulked allowing him to bang down low and not be concerned about his knee.
The only concern about him is his lengthy injury history. Being as tall as Isaac is, only increases the likelihood of injury, not to mention being frail doesn’t help. His most recent injury happened to close out the year, and that was a torn abductor muscle. Before that, in the bubble, there was a torn ACL injury. Taking over two years to fully rehab, I appreciate the Magic organization not rushing him back, but allowing him to fully recover before stepping on the basketball court again.
