The New York Knicks are a lock to win Game 2 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
After an impressive first-round NBA playoff win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games, the New York Knicks were buzzing. It was their first playoff series win in nearly 10 years. Facing the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Knicks quickly realized it wouldn’t be as easy as it was in the first round.
Even after the Knicks’ Game 1 loss on their home floor, not all hope is lost for the series. The series has just begun and there is still plenty that needs to be played out. And heading into Game 2, the Knicks should be confident. In fact, I’d go on to say that the Knicks are a lock to tie the series at one game apiece heading into Game 2. Let’s take a look at three reasons why.
Jimmy Butler is hurt
During the fourth quarter of Game 1, Jimmy Butler turned his ankle. He finished the game but wasn’t clearly himself down the stretch. New York didn’t take advantage of Jimmy’s injury in Game 1 but they almost certainly will in Game 2. With time to look back at the tape and a clean slate, the Knicks won’t make the same mistake twice. Not with a veteran coach like Tom Thibodeau leading the way.
Even if Jimmy does play, though there’s at least a chance he misses Game 2 entirely, the Knicks will be better prepared to take advantage of him and his lack of mobility if he is still recovering from his ankle injury.
