NBA Rumors: Christian Wood will not re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks. What could be his next move?

In the end, the 2022-23 NBA season will be remembered as a year to forget for the Dallas Mavericks. And as they attempt to bounce back, this is a franchise that will likely be looking to make some major changes during the offseason. And one change that the team is rumored to already be preparing for is the loss of Christian Wood. Or, another way to put it, the moving on from Wood.

Last summer, Wood was acquired by Dallas from the Houston Rockets in exchange for Boban Marjanovic, Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss, Sterling Brown, and the draft rights to Wendell Moore Jr. During his lone season with the Mavs, Wood averaged 17 points and seven rebounds on 52 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from 3-point range.

If the Mavs do end up moving on from Wood, it will be interesting to see what his next move can be as he heads into free agency.

A sensible next move or Christian Wood

At least on the surface, I would find it hard to believe that there’s a team out there that is going to throw big money in the way of Wood. Even though he was productive during his one season in Dallas, he didn’t have as big of an impact on the Mavs as they perhaps thought he would.

In a way, he has some recrafting of his reputation to do. And I believe that he could end up signing a shorter deal this summer because of that. Looking at the landscape of the league, there are a few potential landing spots where that would make sense.
